Environmental Engineering Technology

The Environmental Engineering Technology program prepares the student for the practical application of technology to waste management and the control of pollution of the air, water, land and other aspects of the environment. The program is based on elements of science and engineering technology appropriate to an understanding of the process of environmental quality and it's degradation. The program is also concerned with the design of equipment and systems for environmental protection.

Through the careful selection of program electives, the student may emphaasize either the engineering or the science aspects of the field. The program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission(TAC) of ABET.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (ENVT) PROGRAM

PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT

The Environmental Engineering Technology prepares the student for the practical application of technology to waste management and the control of pollution of the air, water, land and other aspects of the environment.  The program is based on the elements of science and engineering technology appropriate to an understanding of the processes of environmental quality degradation and to the design of equipment and systems for environmental protection.  Through careful selection of electives, the student may emphasize one the engineering or science aspects of the field.  Graduates are qualified to work in the field or office positions in local, state or federal regulatory agencies, in environmental control groups in industry, and as project supervisors with consulting companies.

It is the mission of the ENVT program to provide an excellent educational experience for its students.  This experience includes an emphasis on the technical, communication, teamwork and life-long learning skills that graduate engineering technologists need to succeed, in both the workplace and society in general.  Students enrolled in the four-year ENVT Programs are educated for careers as engineering technologists--specialists in the application of science for useful purposes.  The engineering technologist works in close support of engineers translating conceptual ideas into functioning systems and providing supervisory direction for the implementation of these ideas by the technicians and craftsmen.

The goal of the ENVT program is to prepare students to pursue graduate education in their specific areas of interest, seek professional licensing, and become involved in project planning, design, construction and research.  The objective of the ENVT program at Temple University is to provide students with knowledge of computer utilization applicably to industry practice, and societal factors from which students can solve solutions to practical problems related to Environmental Engineering Technology.

CONTITUENCIES:  Alumni, Industry and Government Employers, Professional Societies.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND EVALUATION

The ENVT program should produce graduates who:

1.      Have a basic knowledge of the primary areas of practice of environmental engineering technology from which they chose to practice in, such as: water and waste water systems, solid waste, environmental regulations, industrial environmental health, pollution control.

2.       Can communicate effectively in oral, written and electronic media and have the necessary teamwork and leadership skills to work and participate effectively in a team environment.

3.      Can contribute to the development and improvement of such areas as the state of technology in environmental engineering, education, and research; and who can contribute to the economic, technical, social and educational development of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the country and the world.
