Will I be successful in college?
On a positive note, experience has shown over the years that three ingredients are necessary for success in college. They are sound scholastic aptitude, solid academic preparation, and a strong commitment.
Aptitude is the capacity or potential to learn. It is the natural tendency, ability in one's performance to comprehend and understand.
Academic preparation means a strong academic background which is reflected in one's performance in high school.
Commitment. Today this is the key ingredient which is the indication of one's dedication, motivation, interest, drive, determination, and seriousness of purpose.
Most students who are admitted to college appear to have adequate aptitude
and a good academic background or they would not have been accepted. The
question which plagues many freshmen is why is it that so many students
fail to achieve their educational goal when they have the necessary academic
qualifications? The answer lies in the commitment of each individual student.
Without commitment to their educational goals, the likelihood of being
successful in college is reduced appreciably and they are only able to
experience limited success. In view of this, it is expedient that we fully
understand what is involved in being committed to their education goal.
